MAKE YOUR BED

If you really want to know how to clean your room fast, begin each morning by making your bed. Once the bed is made, the rest of the room is easier to tackle.

You can make your bed easy to make.  For example, you can skip a top sheet, to avoid having to fold that.  Get the least amount of pillows necessary to build that perfect pillow sculpture.  Use one blanket on top.  The fewer items on the bed, the fewer things to make.

Having trouble folding a fitted sheet?  Here is a article to walk you through it (we also tried to make it funny).

EXTRA SHEETS

Get an extra pair of sheets to help keep your bed clean. The average TIDY Homekeeper recommends washing your sheets twice a month.  Pull off the dirty sheets, then immediately put the clean ones on.  Then, put your dirty sheets in the wash.  This way allows you to not worry about getting the wash done before going to bed.

One third of your life is spent in sheets, its worth having clean ones.

OPEN THE WINDOWS

Sunlight is cleansing. In Japan, bedding is traditionally hung in the sun every day to kill germs & keep bedding fresh.  You don't need to quite go that far.  Simply by opening your windows regularly you will air out your room to make it feel fresher.

DUST WEEKLY

Minimizing the dust in your room is essential to ensuring you have a healthy environment to sleep in. Use a dust wand to dust your blinds, clean off the top of your dressers and get those harder to reach shelves. Using a dust wand instead of a rag will make your job easier and prevent dust from falling to the floor.

CLEAN A MUSTY MATTRESS

If your mattress is musty, you may want to eventually get a new one.  But they are expensive, and you can do a lot to keep mattresses fresh.  One Homekeeper recently gave the following tips.

"Keep mattresses fresh using a mixture of liquid dish washing detergent and water. Combine about one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with two quarts of water. Use a sponge to lightly pat the top and sides of your mattress and then blow dry your mattress. Don't soak your mattress, the goal is to simply clean the top layer of padding. Then, sprinkle baking soda on a dry mattress.  Leave it for a full day, then vacuum the powder up at night to make it feel fresh."

ORGANIZING DRAWERS

When you really want to learn how to clean your room fast, you'll want to invest in some dividers for your drawers.

By doing this you can put socks and underwear in their place.  By segmenting out your shirts, pants, and tops you help keep messes contained.  This means you have to do less organizing, and focus instead on getting things to the right spot.

LOSE THE CHANGE, GET A COIN DISH

Do you come home and empty your pockets on the dresser?  A coin dish can help keep your area neater.  If you have a lot of stuff, If you don't have a piggy bank, consider using a jar to capture your change at the end of each day.

PROPER HANDBAG STORAGE

If you have handbags made of leather, you'll want to store them using acid-free tissue. You can find this tissue in most department stores and grocery stores. This tissue helps to preserve the leather and keeps your handbags in like-new condition.

ORGANIZE YOUR FURNITURE

One of the biggest deterrents to a clean room may actually be the position of your furniture. Organize your furniture to leave enough room for your to get between things.  This helps vacuthe vacuum cleaner to get in between dressers, your bed, and your nightstand. This will make vacuuming less of a chore, and you'll find it's easier than ever to learn how to keep your room clean.

VACUUM WEEKLY

Even if your room doesn't look like it needs it, you'll want to make sure you vacuum weekly. By running a vacuum over your floors weekly, you'll reduce the amount of dust that accumulates in your room. This is especially important if you have allergies.

CLEANING YOUR PETS

Like to sleep with your pet?  It may affect your health and the cleanliness of your room. So, how to clean a bedroom when you have pets? If you have a cat, consider getting a high perch inside of your room.  This lets them keep an eye out while you sleep instead of sleeping in your bed. For dogs, consider training your dog to sleep in a dog bed to reduce the amount of hair in your bed. In either case, get some hair control shedding wipes or a furminator.  By wiping down your pet each night, you cut the amount of hair that gets in your sheets.

PROTECT THOSE PILLOWS

Using pillow protectors can help keep your pillows clean, and prevent a messy bedroom. Wash the protectors monthly and change the pillowcases weekly for the best results. As with your bedding, you should keep an extra set of pillowcases on hand.  This is so you don't have to wait for them to dry before going to sleep.

CLEANING YOUR ROOM QUICKLY

If you want to know how to clean your room in 5 minutes, you'll need to organize things ahead of time. Grab those dirty clothes that are laying on the floor and throw them into a laundry basket. Make your bed, dust your shelves and have the vacuum ready to go. You're room will be clean, and the only thing you have to do now is clean and organize your laundry.

Put on some music, and learn how to make cleaning your room fun.  It will become less of a task and more of a "time-out" from the stresses of life.
