Tracking Deposits

Each deposit records the property, the guest or tenant, the reservation or lease dates, the deposit type (security, pet, or damage), the amount, the channel it came through, when it was held, and when it was released. Statuses cover the deposit’s life:

Held — you’re holding the deposit.
Released — the deposit has been returned.
Claimed — some or all of the deposit was kept, with the claim amount and reason recorded.

Recording a claim reason keeps a clear trail of why any portion of a deposit was withheld — useful for the tenant conversation and your own records.
