How to Find a Pet-Friendly Cleaning Service

With pets in the house, maintaining hygiene can be a difficult job. No matter how hard you try to keep your pets away from ticks, fleas and dirt, bathe them regularly and train them, there will be days when you come back to find “accidents” around the home. Even if you maintain a strict cleaning regime and use the right products & tools, it is always best to get the professionals to come in once in a while and give your house a complete clean-up. Most pet-parents do want to get professional help, but they have a hard time finding pet-friendly cleaning services that are efficient and affordable at the same time. Even if a company does advertise to be safe for your pets, how can you be sure? What exactly does one need to look for in such companies? These are questions that might puzzle you so keep on reading as we discover the answers to these queries.

HOW TO FIND A CLEANING SERVICE?

Thanks to the technological advent we can now quickly look up for cleaning services in our area. You can try searching on websites such as Yelp or even use Facebook as various companies today have active social accounts. Once you have shortlisted the ones you like, it is now time to get answers to the essential questions.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN AN EFFICIENT CLEANING SERVICE?

Some companies may ask you to remove your pets from the house for a day. It indicates that the products they are using may be harmful to your pets or their staff may not be comfortable working with pets. A service that is safe for pets will have experience in working alongside all sorts of animals from dogs to cats, fishes, birds and even reptiles.

When choosing a service, inquire about the kind of products they will be using. Certain chemicals can be poisonous for pets if ingested so make sure they use products that are free from such toxic substances. Here is a list of the contents that need to be avoided:

  • Bleach
  • Ammonia
  • Formaldehyde used in household cleaners
  • Perchloroethylene used in carpet cleaners
  • Phenols
  • Phthalates

ASK WHAT TOOLS OR MACHINES THEY WILL USE

Also, check if they are equipped with the right tools and machines. For instance, a significant problem for households with pets is dander. It can get into the carpet and settle in the fibers which becomes difficult to remove using a regular vacuum cleaner. To clean the carpets thoroughly and reach all the dander in the carpet a vacuum system with High-Efficiency Particular Air (HEPA) filtration is required. It not only removes all pet dander but also keeps it out of the environment during vacuuming.

Be sure to check if they use eco-friendly and biodegradable cleaning solutions as these are in most cases safe for pets.

Before finalizing the deal get them to visit your home and meet any pets that they might have to look after, in case you won’t be able to stay at home when they come.
